it’s time

charlotte-dawson

I didn’t know Charlotte Dawson. I met her briefly once at a Women of Letters event back in June 2012 and I remember thinking that she was even more beautiful in person than she was on TV. I have been a fan of Charlotte since the first season of Australia’s Next Top Model. I loved her frankness in judging, but also the kindness she showed the contestants. She appeared to be a person who cared deeply. Read More

2013 oscars – full list of winners

Oscars

The 85th Annual Academy Awards was held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and was hosted by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. While initally skeptical about the choice of MacFarlane as host, I actually found him to be rather good. Granted, I haven’t seen it all, but I loved the opening monologue which you can watch below. Continue reading for my fashion picks, some amazing performances and a full list of winners.  Read More

2013 grammy awards – full list of winners

GrammyAwardsTrophys_620_120512

The 55th Grammy Awards happened at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Despite some strict dress code rules this year, the read carpet at the Grammy’s is always interesting. For my fashion picks, I’m going for the most ‘sensible’ as it’s hard to judge the really out-there styles the Grammy’s bring. There were performances by Justin Timerlake and Jay Z, Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys and that’s just the beginning! fun was a big winner taking home Song of the Year and The Black Keys taking home a few awards. Gotye and Adele were winners as well (obviously). Read More

2013 BAFTA’s – full list of winners

Bafta_2446156c

The 2013 BAFTA’s (British Academy Film Awards) were held at the Royal Opera House in London, England. It was a cold night with snow falling on the red carpet so it was hard to stay warm while looking good. Ben Affleck’s Argo was the big winner of the night leaving me (and everyone else) even more confused as to why he wasn’t nominated for Best Director at the upcoming Academy Awards. Everyone looked really good on the red carpet but I’ve been able to pick my favourite and my least favourite look of the night. Read More

2013 SAG Awards – full list of winners

SAGAwards

The 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were held at Los Angeles’ historic Shine Auditorium. With less than a month to go until the Academy Awards (or the Oscars as they are more commonly known), the SAG Awards are generally a glimpse at what is to be expected for the wins. Celebrating both Film and Television, Australian’s were very well represented. Without a host, I generally prefer the running of the SAG Awards to almost any other, as it is seamless and well run. My favourite part of the ceremony? When Dick Van Dyke won the Lifetime Achievement Award. Keep reading for my fashion picks, Dick’s acceptance and a full list of winners. Read More

2013 golden globe awards – full list of winners

tinafeyamypoehlergoldenglobes

The 2013 Golden Globe Awards have come to a close. Unfortunately (but also fortunately) I have been at work so I haven’t been able to watch the ceremony yet (though it is recorded on iQ at home) so I can’t give you a run down of the ceremony, other than to say that Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell presenting the award for Best Actress in Comedy or Musical was hilarious. What I can do is give you my fashion favourites and a full list of winners. Enjoy! Read More

real men vs. fictional characters

You cannot escape 50 Shades of Grey (or as I still like to think of it courtesy of Cate Pearce, Fifty Shades of Unmitigated Crap). It is seriously everywhere; in book stores, on social media and in the news. I’ve continued to avoid this phenomenon as I really don’t understand the appeal of reading porn. And it seems Kristen Stewart agrees with me. When she was asked about 50 Shades of Grey recently, she said “But it’s just so raunchy! I mean, obviously, everyone knows that. But when I see people reading it on planes and stuff, I’m genuinely creeped out. Like, you’re basically just reading porn right now! Get that blanket off your lap!” Yes indeed Kristen, yes indeed.

And she’s not the only celebrity talking about it. Earlier this week Jesse Williams (you know, the crazy attractive guy who plays Dr Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy? Still don’t know? Google him and thank me later) tweeted “50 Shades of Grey leads woman to divorce her husband” with the screen shot of an article about a woman who is divorcing her “boring” husband after her attempts to kick-start their love life failed. I’m not even remotely kidding. Read More

bye bye, birdy?

Though I like to think of myself as being informed about politics, the truth is there is quite a lot that I don’t know about our political system and there is even less that I know about US politics. As we draw even closer to the next United States presidential election, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney have been filling the news channels and news websites with their pledges and what they will do as President of the United States of America. I don’t know much about what they stand for because, as ignorant as this is, I don’t get a vote, so I feel that it doesn’t REALLY matter who I support as I don’t get a say. But after the first presidential debate last week, even though Romney clearly won, I found myself rooting for Obama. Despite the fact that I once referred to Romney as trustworthy, when I heard that he wants to get rid of PBS, I took issue. Read More
