I didn’t know Charlotte Dawson. I met her briefly once at a Women of Letters event back in June 2012 and I remember thinking that she was even more beautiful in person than she was on TV. I have been a fan of Charlotte since the first season of Australia’s Next Top Model. I loved her frankness in judging, but also the kindness she showed the contestants. She appeared to be a person who cared deeply. Read More
The whole world (well not the whole world, but a lot of people) have royal baby fever. Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge left the hospital with their newborn little prince and he is gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful. And William and Kate are beaming just like any first time parents. They look so lovely and happy and so they should, it is a happy occasion.
But there’s something that bothers me a little every time something good happens for William — people will inevitably bring up Diana. Read More
We all say it every year, but I still can’t believe that 2012 is coming to a close. It seems to have gone really quickly but then slowly at the same time, in the way that every year feels to go. 2012 has been a huge year for me and while I didn’t enjoy it to begin with, I’m extremely happy with the way that it’s ending.
In the beginning of 2012, I was heartbroken, unemployed and really lost. I had no idea what was going on in my life and how I had managed to get to where I was. I wasn’t a fun person to be around but I luckily had some friends who stood by me anyway. Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, 1 July 2012 happened. Read More
There are a few things in life that I feel as passionate about as the need for proper gun control everywhere, especially in the United States. Every time I wake to news of another shooting, I feel this terrible sinking feeling in my stomach. It’s sinking because it’s a tragedy but I know enough to know that nothing is going to change.
When I heard about the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, I was devastated. Every time a new piece of information is released, I am moved to tears. Especially when the names and ages of the children killed were released. They were six and seven. A man stood in front of children who were six and seven and shot them multiple times with a semi-automatic. I can’t even fathom what kind of person is capable of this cruelty. Read More
This morning, I woke up to news that yet ANOTHER school shooting happened in America. But something about this story was different. The shooting took place at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut where a 20-year-old man, Adam Lanza, opened fire, killing 28 people, 20 of them children between the ages of five and 10 (death toll varies on different news reports, no official figure has been released yet). You can read various news stories here, here and here. Read More
When we woke up this morning, we were all greeted with the news that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their first child. According to ABC News St James Palace made a statement saying:
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby,” the palace said in a statement today. “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.” Read More
Hello my lovelies!
I’m so sorry I’ve been so slack with writing posts. With full time work, my commitments over at KiKi & Tea plus trying to nurture a relationship and keep a social life, my blogging love, musings, has fallen a bit by the wayside. But don’t think I’ve forgotten about it. I haven’t and I will try my hardest to make sure it isn’t as neglected.
So what’s the reason for this post, other than apologising? It’s to commemorate the fact that it has been exactly one year since I started “the musings of monique”! Read More
To get a job in the media, you need more than just a degree, in fact, sometimes you don’t need a degree at all, you need experience. Why? Because just like in The Devil Wears Prada “a million girls would kill for this job”, though it’s not exclusive to just women. If you think work experience and interning is “beneath you” and you think you will be fine with just a degree, then good luck, because there are thousands out there willing to work for free for the chance that they may someday land a job in the media. I know, because I was one of them. Read More
