When we woke up this morning, we were all greeted with the news that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their first child. According to ABC News St James Palace made a statement saying:
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby,” the palace said in a statement today. “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.”
But it’s not all happy news. The reason the statement has been made is because Catherine has been admitted to hospital due to a severe form of morning sickness. According to SMH.com.au:
The news was revealed after Kate was admitted to hospital on Monday afternoon for treatment for severe morning sickness. No due date has been announced.
St James’s Palace issued a statement announcing the pregnancy and saying, “The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII hospital in central London with hyperemesis gravidarum. As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, her royal highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”
Royal pregnancies are not normally announced until they are passed the fragile 12-week mark and it is thought that the duchess’s hospitalisation is the reason for the press release at an early stage. The couple reportedly wanted to avoid speculation about her condition.
This is fantastic news and I’m sure William and Catherine are over the moon about it. But now that we know the news and know how sick Catherine is (you can read about hyperemesis gravidarum here), can we please leave them alone? Can we stop speculating when and where the conception happened, whether they will have a boy or a girl (they will certainly have one of them, there is no other option), whether it’s twins or triplets and can we please stop taking bets on what they will name the child?
This must be an incredibly stressful time for them. While being pregnant and expecting a baby is a wonderful thing, with how sick Catherine is, I really would like the media and the paparazzi to leave them alone and let her rest. Stop staking out around the hospital, hoping that William will make a statement. His pregnant wife is sick and in hospital, please allow him some common courtesy and leave him alone.
So while I consume a great deal of celebrity news and share it with you all, with the exception of my celebrity wrap up over at KiKi & Tea on Friday, you won’t hear anything else from me until the child arrives.
Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I hope she feels better soon.
Do you think the media should leave them alone or does their royal status open them up to it?
