This post is kind of a big deal because it marks the 100th post on “the musings of monique”. Get excited people! This lovely little blog has only been going for six months and considering it’s just me posting blogs, I’m pretty impressed that I’ve reached 100 posts already, so thanks to all my loyal readers out there, I couldn’t do it without you all! Now for “the low down according to mon”, I’ve made a few changes, which I’m sure you’ll love. I’ve broken the news down into categories to make it easier for you to find. Remember to head over to KiKi & Tea at 4pm for the highlights version. The following was accurate when posted at 10AM (AEST)…
Sadly there have been a few deaths in the music industry this week. After slipping into a coma last month with pneumonia Robin Gibb, one of the founding members of the Bee Gees, died at age 62 after a long battle with colon and liver cancer. His family made the announcement on the late singers Twitter page. After the news, his brother, Barry Gibb, posted a very moving tribute to his late brother called “Bodding”, the nickname he gave his brother. You can watch it here. The Australian music scene mourned this week as Crowded House drummer Peter Jones died at the young age of 45 from brain cancer.
The Billboard Music Awards held Sunday (Australia’s Monday) this week were a big Adele love fest with the Rolling In The Deep singer taking home 12 awards (of the 44 awards presented by Modern Family actors Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen) with LMFAO coming in second, taking home 6. The L.A. Times made a few interesting observations of the night, including Jordin Sparks tribute to the late Whitney Houston. Check out some of the fashion and reports that Chris Brown was lip-syncing. Despite the obvious popularity of Adele, the issue of UK Vogue that she covered was one of the worst sellers the iconic magazine has ever had.
Phillip Phillips became the winner of Season 11 of American Idol, beating out Jessica Sanchez. Phillip was quite ill during the during of the show, undergoing eight surgeries for chronic kidney problems, according to his Dad he was only able to give 50% but luckily that was enough. A proposal behind Idol alum Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo happened on the finale stage. It was super cute.
Elton John has been forced to cancel performances after developing a serious respiratory infection over the weekend that has only gotten worse. Hope he gets better soon!
Every week since I started this weekly post, The Avengers seems to have broken another record. As of this week, The Avengers has grossed a total of $1.2billion worldwide, the fourth biggest haul ever behind Avatar, Titantic and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two. I daresay I’ll have more record breaking news to share next week.
It’s trailer time! The brand new first trailers of the new James Bond movie Skyfall and the Baz Luhrmann interpretation of The Great Gatsby were released this week, watch them below:
It’s that time of year again, the A-List flocked to the south of France for the esteemed Cannes Film Festival. Some interesting things have happened at Cannes. First of all, Sean Penn and on-again-off-again model girlfriend Petra Nemcova frequently stepped out together, including the time Penn accused the world of abandoning Haiti. But the disconcerted actor did more than just complain, he hosted an event that raised $2million for Haiti. Props to Penn! There have been many films released at Cannes, but none as highly anticipated as On The Road which has had moderate to mixed reviews. For all you would want to know about the Cannes Film Festival including the fashion, E! Online has is covered.
The John Travolta case has been building over the past few weeks and these are the latest instalments: John Doe #2 in the case has a name, it’s John Truesdale; since accusers #1 and #2 have enlisted the help of top entertainment lawyer, Gloria Allred, their former lawyer is so annoyed at being dropped that he’s suing Allred. Currently, no one is suing the Grease star. I wonder how long it will stay this way.
Nothings official until it’s Facebook-official and that’s how the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg announced his wedding to longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan. Since the surprise wedding, many news outlets have speculated on the interesting timing of the nuptials as it leaves Zuckerberg’s fortune safe after Donald Trump publicly said “I hope he has a prenup“. There’s lots of legal jumbo that I don’t understand being talked about, so click on the links if you want to know more.
Everyone’s favourite E! News anchor (OK, my favourite), Giuliana Rancic has extended her contract with E!, signing on until 2015 as anchorman of E! News, red-carpet and Fashion Police correspondent as well as continuing as managing editor of E! News. It seems like the expectant mumma has plenty to keep her busy.
Last week I told you that Terminator actor Nick Stahl was missing, but according to his estranged wife, the actor has since been found and checked himself into rehab. With the Olympics only a couple of months away, Black Eyed Peas frontman, Will.i.am had the amazing honour of carrying the Olympic torch. I wish I got to…
According to reports, Kim Kardashian has a fairly tight leash on rapper boyfriend Kanye West and is allegedly trying to limit Kanye’s “exposure” to single women. I’m calling crazy on this rumour, Kim ain’t that insecure and I don’t think Kanye is looking to stray. They both seem to be pretty happy with each other.
Billy Bob Thornton opened up on TV show Nightlight this week, saying the main reason his relationship with Angelina Jolie (remember, they were totally married) failed was due to his own insecurities, saying he felt like Quasimodo next to her. He also debunked the whole “vials of blood around their necks” thing.
Ex’s Russell Brand and Katy Perry have been making the rounds on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and have both mentioned each other. Russ was telling Ellen that he still loves Katy, saying “I still love her as a human being, but sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it?” On the flip side, Katy was sharing that her new concert tour movie Part Of Me: 3D would “tastefully” mention the divorce.
Last week I was able to tell you that Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley‘s new adopted baby girl’s name was Adalaide Marie Hope and I’m very excited to see that this week, I can show you a first look at the little cutie! The Kelley family is filled with beautiful girls, with the extra gorgeous Naleigh big sister to new Adalaide.
A few weeks ago, E! Online announced that Megan Fox was preggo. I was fairly sceptical, considering they posted a picture showing a baby bump that didn’t even look like she’d eaten lunch. While I’m still not entirely convinced, new photos have surfaced that are either taken on an unflattering angle, or could be the beginnings of a baby bump. Decide for yourself.
Jersey Shore guidette Snooki has announced that she is expecting a bouncing baby boy! The reality TV starlet admitted that she had wanted the baby to be a girl, but is still excited by the news.
Baby Maxwell has a godmother, Jessica Simpson’s bestie, CaCee Cobb has secured the coveted position.
