Hey y’all (I’m feeling all Southern after watching heaps of Friday Night Lights) and welcome to “the low down according to mon”. I hope you’ve been enjoying having most of your celeb news in one convenient location. As usual, this week has been heavy on the news and remember to head over to KiKi & Tea for the highlights edition at 4pm today (May 18)! To kick us off, we have some legal news (accurate when posted at 10AM EST)
American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson and her family finally got some good news this week when the man accused of killing her Mum, brother and young nephew (former brother-in-law William Balfour) was found guilty on all counts. He know faces a life sentence in prison.
Poor John Travolta is being slammed with even more allegations of sexual harassment. Just a day after John Doe #1 withdrew his complaint after overwhelming evidence suggests his claim was false, the anonymous man has hired media loving Gloria Allred as his new lawyer and Jone Doe #2 has followed suit. It’s looking very likely that the actor will end up in court based on these allegations and Gloria Allred is definitely going for the win. There have also been outrageous reports from the National Enquirer saying Travolta once tried to perform oral sex on late Grease co-star Jeff Conway, which his lawyer swiftly shut down. While I believe he is innocent of these crimes, I can’t help but be reminded of the fact that where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. I wonder if we’ll ever know the truth.
Aussie hunk and Avengers star Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, welcomed a baby girl, India Rose, on May 11. Proud Dad Chris said that they both liked the name Indiana or Indie for a boy and India for a girl. The couple have already made their first outing with baby India.
Katherine Heigl and hubby Josh Kelley have finally released the name of their second daughter (adopted domestically). Naleigh (adopted from South Korea in 2009) is now a big sister to Adalaide Marie Hope. While it’s a super cute name, just like her big sister’s, it’s throwing me off having to spell Adelaide wrong. Hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of the little cutie soon.
This week we heard the surprising news that Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland underwent a kidney transplant in April at the age of 21 (she’s the same age as me). The comedy actress, who has suffered from kidney dysplasia since being diagnosed at the age of 9, kept her condition a secret, only opening up in a Seventeen magazine interview saying the transplant (with her father as the donor) saved her from a lifetime of dialysis. The actress, better known as Haley Dunphy, has been getting help from on-screen mum Julie Bowen and on and off screen boyfriend Matt Prokop: “He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself. Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have him be there for me.”
When it comes time for TV shows to wrap up their seasons in the spring (our “fall”/autumn), renewal time comes around. This year, there have been a few (partially) shocking cancellations as well as some “final” renewals. We have said goodbye to CSI: Miami, The Secret Circle (The Vampire Diaries spin-off), Awake, Ringer and Alcatraz among others. 30 Rock was renewed for a shorter 7th season which will be the shows last. Other NBC comedies Parks and Recreation and Community have also been renewed (with Community having a shortened season as well). You can find full list of renewals and cancellations here as well as checking out the new pilots the CW has ordered here. You can also view the Fall schedule which will show you the days and times that shows will be aired.
After much speculation and E! News sighting many “official confirmations”, FOX has officially confirmed that Britney Spears along with fellow Disney sweetheart Demi Lovato will be judges #3 and 4 on the US version of The X Factor. The girls will be replacing Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger in an attempt by FOX to revamp the show to gain ratings. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
In other reality TV show news, reports are surfacing that Jennifer Lopez is leaving American Idol. After appearing on Ellen with What To Expect When You’re Expecting co-star Cameron Diaz, there has been speculation that like former judge Ellen DeGeneres, JLo will be leaving the hit show. When there are more details, I will let you know!
Whether or not JLo is leaving AI, the actress/singer/reality TV star has come out on top in Forbes Magazine‘s annual “World’s Most Powerful Celebrity” list, beating Oprah Winfrey and Justin Bieber who appeared on the list at number two and three respectively. To see the full list, head over to Forbes.
The Avengers just keeps on breaking records! The superhero action flick surpassed $1billion worldwide and have also beaten The Hunger Games as the 2012 movie of the year, raking in a few extra million nationally in the US. Rumours have also been circulating that Robert Downey Jr is set to make $50million for his role as Iron Man, with his costars only up for salaries ranging from $2-$6 million. Downey’s reps have refused to comment on speculation regarding his salary. I wonder how true that is. In other superhero movie news, a four minute trailer for The Amazing Spiderman was released this week, it looks pretty impressive.
Rapper Jay Z has announced that he is taking a break from music to spend more time with his and Beyonce‘s daughter Blue Ivy. Mr Beyonce has said “I thought that I would after my daughter was born. I thought I would be more inspired with all the new feelings and everything that I’d have to write about, but it really happened the other way. I just really wanna hang out with her. I just wanna enjoy those moments for a bit and I’m sure that feeling of music will come back to me.” How adorable is that!
In random news, actor Nick Stahl from Terminator Salvation has been reported missing by his wife. The actor was last seen on May 9 by wife Roseann. Roseann is worried her husbands disappearance may be linked to his drug use. In other random news, a sequel to the stoner comedy Pineapple Express is looking like it may happen with more actors from the original film saying they’d be up for it.
In sad news, Donna Summer, the Queen of disco has died at the age of 63. While the family did not release the cause of death, there is speculation the singer had been battling cancer. Check our her five greatest disco hits. Mary Kennedy, estranged wife of Robert Kennedy Jr was found dead this week after hanging herself in her New York apartment.
In Australian “entertainment” news: Kirstie Clements no longer Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Australia, three of the Wiggles will leave to be replaced by two men and the first ever woman Wiggle, Michael Clarke married girlfriend Kyly in secret and Carmen booted off The Voice for appearing in Guy Sebastian’s latest film clip. Why is this so short? Because all of these things get much more media coverage in Australia than the other stuff I’m talking about so chances are, you already know.
Here are some super cute Mother’s Day videos to send you off into the weekend. The first is from Ben Affleck to his beautiful wife Jennifer Garner which was filmed on his recent trip to the Congo and features Mothers and children from there.
And this adorable video was made by Modern Family star, Sofia Vergara‘s son amidst speculation that she is now a single lady.
