Welcome back to the second edition of “the low down according to mon”! I hope you enjoyed reading the first one as much as I enjoyed writing it. This week has been jam packed with celebrity news (which isn’t strange considering how many celebs there are). I’ve also started a weekly Friday post over on KiKi & Tea featuring what I consider to be the top five stories in entertainment news so head on over and check it out at 4pm today (May 11).
This is what has happened since last Friday (posted 10am EST):
Unfortunately I’m kick starting this post with some sad news. Adam “MCA” Yauch, co-founder of hip-hop group the Beastie Boys died at the age of 47 from cancer. His rep confirmed that the music pioneer died on May 4 after a three year battle with cancerous parotid gland and lymph node. His loss was keenly felt across the music world, but actor Rainn Wilson summed it up best when he said this “He was a super-genius, a visionary and, most importantly, a really good person.”
Rumours have been circulating for weeks now that Megan Fox is pregnant. I’m not buying it at the moment. The photos that surface “showing off her bump” don’t even look like she’s had a big lunch. I feels like the story has just been pulled out of thin air. Her publicist must be getting annoyed about it as when Megan was asked about her rumoured pregnancy in an on-air interview this week, the actress stumbled on her words before her publicist promptly ended the interview. Word to all journos, when publicists say a topic is off limits, they mean it!
Funny girl, Amanda Bynes, seems to be getting into trouble with the law quite a bit lately. She certainly seems to be experiencing a lot of difficulties when it comes to her car. Despite being arrested earlier this month under suspicion of driving under the influence, the 26-year-old actress will find herself in court on another driving charge. Bynes scratched a truck with her car and kept on driving, allegedly unaware she’d made contact. I hope everything works out well for her, but I think she’s great.
Despite my sadness that Robert Downey Jr is married (and not to me), I got over that pretty quickly when he and his wife Susan released photos of their first child together, Exton Elias born February 7. The Avengers actor was being interview on Jay Leno when he shared the photos of his beautiful eight-week-old son. He teased that he’d only show the one photo, but he just couldn’t resist gushing “He’s so darn cute, isn’t he? You get one, that’s it. Unless of course you want to see the other one.” Gotta love proud Dads. First photos were also released of Jack Osbourne‘s baby girl, Pearl as well as Charlize Theron‘s adopted baby boy, Jackson. Victoria’s Secret supermodel, Alessandra Ambrosio announced the birth of her second child, a son, Noah Phoenix.
Speaking of The Avengers, it has been box office gold. Over the weekend it became the fourth comic book film to enter the top ten all-time opening weekends and it just so happened that it took out first place, beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two by making $200.3 million opening weekend. There is already confirmation from Disney (who heads up Marvel Studios) that there will be a sequel. No word yet on who is going to write and direct, though it would be a shame to lose Joss Whedon.
This week was the 2012 Met Costume Institute Gala, which is basically the Oscars of fashion. Held every year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Met Gala is attended by actors, singers and models, with the expectation of creativity. You can check out a gallery of looks here and here. But the most exciting news of the night? Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake made their first public appearance as an engaged couple and we got a closer look at her AMAZING diamond. There were also rumours that Kim Kardashian was banned from attending the event by US Vogue Editor Anna Wintour when new squeeze Kanye West turned up solo but the Kardashian camp have denied this was the case.
After months of speculation, E! News has confirmed that pop princess Britney Spears is joining the judges on the US version of The X Factor. Simon Cowell (the super honest judge on American Idol if you don’t remember him), the creator of The X Factor, has remained tight-lipped but apparently a “source” has confirmed Britney has signed a $15 million contract. While it would be fantastic news for Brit, it still remains speculation.
Despite being a popular series, there was no certainty that all the The Hunger Games books would be made into films. After the roaring success of the first film, fans are hungry for more. But Liam Hemsworth, who plays Katniss’s best friend Gale, has spoken out and said that he isn’t even sure when filming starts after director Gary Ross decided to not film the sequel. There are many new characters being introduced in Catching Fire and there has been lots of speculation on casting, but with that speculation has come some fierce racism after Grey’s Anatomy super hunk Jesse Williams was thrown around as a possibility for Finnick with fans lashing out and saying he doesn’t have the right skin colour. Not cool.
Waiting for a Friends reunion? You’ll be waiting a long time as both Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc have said it won’t be happening. In other completely unrelated news, comedic actress Anna Faris has announced that she and her husband, Chris Pratt, are expecting their first child together. Congrats guys!
Actor John Travolta has been hit with charges of sexual assault/battery after a massuer filed a lawsuit with the federal court claiming the Pulp Fiction star tried to have sex with him after hiring him for a massage. His reps have denied the claims calling them “complete fiction and fabrication”. Just days afterwards, another massuer filed a complaint saying that Travolta exposed and touched himself while being given an in-room massage at an Atlanta hotel. There’s evidence John Travolta wasn’t even in the same time zone when the alleged attacks took place but it doesn’t seem like these allegations are going away with rumours of more laying in the wait.
In celeb endorsement deals news, the very attractive Brad Pitt has been named the new face of Chanel No. 5. Traditionally, Chanel No. 5 is advertised by women (such as Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tautou and Mrs Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis) and Brad Pitt will be the first man to ever be the face of the French fashion house’s signature perfume. His figure is reportedly in the seven figures, which could go towards wedding planning, not that he needs the extra cash. Gwyneth Paltrow (Brad’s former fiance) has just released a new fragrance with Hugo Boss called Boss Black Boss Nuit Pour Femme.
Get your ears ready as Rebecca Black has released her fourth song and video “Sing It”. You can thank me later.
And in case you stayed on this page after that, the very attractive Don Draper, I mean Jon Hamm, dispenses advice to teens on relationships.
Any other celebrity news you want to talk about? I’m all ears!
