the low down according to mon – may 4

Welcome to my brand new regular post! Thanks to the suggestion of the lovely Melissa Savage, I’ve decided to start a weekly Friday post where I recap all the celeb news that has happened during the week. It’s called “the low down according to mon”, but if you think you can come up with a better name for it, by all means, shoot off suggestions in the comments.

Why am I doing this? First off, I have lots of celebrity trivia and news floating around in my brilliant mind and I thought I should probably put it to use and this leads into my secondly, which is the fact that while many of you won’t go trawling celebrity news sites to find out the latest goss, you still want to know what’s going on. Admit it, you know I’m right. So I thought I would be lovely and put all the important goss from the week into the one post on the Friday which you can all read at your leisure. What’s that? Yes, I know I’m a genius, but it’s nice to hear it anyone. And some credit should definitely go to Mel!

So welcome to the first “the low down according to mon” May 4 edition. This is what has happened since last Friday (posted 10am EST):

Jess said her big belly was due to an abnormally large amniotic sack

Jessica Simpson FINALLY had a baby after being pregnant for what seems like a million years. But don’t think you’d be able to tell the gender by the name; Jess and fiance Eric Johnson welcomed baby girl Maxwell Drew Johnson. Reports surfaced a while ago that this would be the name and that she’d go by “Maxi” for short, which is a little bit cute, but I expected that she’d at least have a feminine middle name. But it’s by no means the worst baby name in Hollywood. Jess made the announcement on her website, sharing that little Maxi weighed a whopping 9lb 13oz, but honestly, with how big Jess got, I’m surprised she wasn’t a bigger baby. Congratulations to the new parents.

Maggie Gyllenhaal
and Peter Sarsgaard welcomed their second daughter, Gloria Ray
, on 19 April (but only announced it this week). Gloria has a big sister, Ramona (aged 5). But don’t get too excited, it will be a long time before we get proper photos of the little cutie as parents are against selling photos of their children to the media. Props to Mum and Dad, or should I say Mom.

Reality starlet Kristin Cavallari is expecting a boy with fiance Jay Culter. While the new parents were only telling close friends, one of Jay’s team mates accidentally let it slip that the happy couple are expecting a boy. Congrats!

The Avengers opened to box office gold, raking in $185.1million internationally. The new brand of hybrid sequels, The Avengers opened to glowing reviews. I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s on my to-do list. And in other movie news, this week we saw the new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, a follow up to the 2008 The Dark Knight, starring the late Heath Ledger as the Joker. Tweets came in from all over expressing their excitement at the new trailer. The movie comes to Australian cinemas 19 July. Here’s five things the people over at E! Online spotted in the trailer.

In some fun news, the cast of The West Wing, has briefly reunited to film a “Funny or Die” video clip in an effort to promote American fitness through the fast walking and talking. Check out the video here.

The 2012 MTV Movie Award Nominations were released this week, with the show to be broadcast June 3. The Hunger Games and Bridesmaids lead the nomination list with eight noms each, while The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One received only two.

The 66th Annual Tony Awards Nominations were released with the show to be broadcast June 10, live from The Beacon Theatre. Movie-to-stage adaption, Once, leads the pack with 11 nominations, including Best Musical. Despite the fact that E! thinks Ricky Martin was snubbed, Aussie hunk Hugh Jackman will be receiving an honorary Tony for his charity well.

Khloe and Lamar are taking a break from the spotlight to focus on the important things in life

One of the Kardashian’s is taking a break from the cameras. Khloe Kardashian Odom and hubby Lamar have put their show (cleverly called Khloe and Lamar) on indefinite hiatus for Lamar to focus on his basketball career, as well as his kids (from a previous relationship). Lamar has had a pretty tough year being traded by the Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks and he is now sitting out the rest of the NBA season. In the announcement there was a “you never know”, so maybe there is some baby news (I really hope there is)! Before you get too upset, the two will still be making appearances on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

In other Kardashian news, as things spice up between Kim and Kanye West, Kim’s soon to be ex-husband has been calling her out on the little white lies she’s been known to tell. A little while ago, you may remember that Kim donated double the amount of the monetary value that she and ex Kris Humphries received in wedding gifts to charity ($200,000). Super sweet, right? Well KHump and his lawyers have come out and said that Kim seems to have “forgotten” the $325,000 white Ferrari they were given by a Malaysian businessman as a wedding gift. Apparently, Kris thinks double the amount would be more like $700,000. But this is speculation, so I’m definitely not saying it’s fact, but either way, giving $200,000 to charity was nice.

Is David Boreanaz leaving Bones? It’s been the question of everyone’s mind after the star sent some cryptic tweets earlier in the week saying “Done. That’s a series wrap for me folk! #Bones”. At first, I thought maybe he was getting confused between series and season. Then Exec producer, Hart Hanson, was tweeting him thanks. I then woke up to the tweet on the right on Thursday morning. So I’m very confused. When I find out more, I will keep you all in the loop. But really, you can’t have Bones without Booth!

Glee‘s Amber Riley gave everyone a scare when she collapsed on the red carpet earlier this week. The singing sensation was on the red carpet at the TV Academy of Arts and Sciences to participate in a panel. But don’t stress, the poor girl was just feeling dizzy and the flashes of the paparazzi’s cameras were a bit too much. But luckily, the paps were nice and didn’t take photos of her on the ground, which she thanked them for. Glad she’s OK.

After recently rejoining Twitter, Demi Moore was looking for a new handle to replace @mrskutcher and she finally got one. After a few weeks of fan suggestions, Demi made the change to @justdemi. Good for her.

UPDATE AT 12PM: Justin Bieber released the music video to his new hit song “Boyfriend” which has been the singer look more mature than he has in the past. Naturally, all his fans are loving it, but what do you think?

So that’s it for the celeb news for the week. Obviously, there has been lots more happen (like Will and Kate celebrating their first wedding anniversary) but I thought I’d just mention the highlights, so tune in next Friday to find out “the low down”.

Loving “the low down according to mon” or do you think you could come up with something better? Sound off in the comments below. Any other celebrity news you want to talk about? I’m all ears!

I don’t really know the reality stars, but I love this post 😀

I have the season finale of Bones downloaded and I’m too scared to watch because I don’t want them to kill him off. I know the show is well past it’s prime an probably should have finished a couple of years ago, but you would think he’d stuck it out 😦

Hope you like it and that it makes finding the news easier 🙂 What did you think of the name?

I’m really scared that they are going to kill him off. I know it’s past its prime, but it still has one contracted season left and my Dad was saying that if they did get rid of Booth, they definitely wouldn’t have another season after that because Bones is too harsh of a character and you need Booth there to compliment her.

The name is pretty good; I like ‘the low down’, it’s snappy.

Good 🙂 I thought it might seem a bit generic but I thought by adding the “according to mon” and making a banner made it seem a bit better, I think!
