Number four on my favourite Christmas movies list is the sequel to my favourite ever Disney film. When I discovered this movie on the Disney Channel (quite a few years ago now), I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was. I now watch it every Christmas Eve.
Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997)
Here’s a brief plot overview:
Even though it is technically a sequel, the movie takes place during the time period depicted in Beauty and the Beast, so Disney actually coined it as a “midquel” to ensure that the magic was still there.
It starts off when the Beast has already turned back into the Prince and Mrs Potts decides to tell the story of how Christmas was brought back to the castle after Lumiere and Cogsworth argue about which of them saved Christmas.
It’s Belle’s first Christmas in the castle and she is shocked when she finds out that the Beast has banned Christmas, as Christmas was when the curse was cast upon him and the rest of the castle. Belle soon convinces the whole castle to help to bring Christmas back and she goes up to the attic to see Angelique, the castle decorator to enlist her help.
Despite the many obstacles (provided by Forte, the former court composer who was turned into a giant pipe organ) Christmas is celebrated at the castle once again.
The movie is short and sweet and it always puts me in the Christmas spirit, especially this song:
