Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two
This movie starts off where the other one leaves things: Dobby has died and Harry, Ron and Hermione (along with Luna) are hiding out at Bill and Fleur’s. Harry senses that Voldemort is now in possession of the Elder Wand. Harry, being all intuitive, feels that a Horcrux could be in Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault as she gets very scared when she thinks they’d already been in there. With the help of Griphook the goblin, Harry, Ron and Hermione break into Gringotts (Hermione took Polyjuice Potion and looks like Bellatrix). The goblins are Gringotts are aware there are intruders and so they face a lot of difficulty getting into and out of the vault. They find Hufflepuff’s goblet, which is another Horcrux, and escape on the dragon that was guarding the vault. They end up in a forest somewhere and Harry realises that Voldemort has been told about the Gringotts incident and knows they are hunting Horcruxes. It is while he is seeing this that Harry realises that another Horcrux had something to do with Ravenclaw and was at Hogwarts. They make the trip to Hogsmeade where detectors go off and they hide in the house of Aberforth Dumbledore (Dumbledore’s brother) who finds a way to get them into Hogwarts with the help of Neville Longbottom. After Snape (new Hogwarts Headmaster) realises Harry is in the school, fighting starts to go down with the Order and Death Eaters arriving simultaneously. After Luna suggests that Ravenclaw’s lost diadem could be what he’s looking for, they set off to find the Grey Lady Ghost who ends up telling Harry where it is. In the meantime, a huge battle is going on in Hogwarts and Ron and Hermione go to the Chamber of Secrets to get a Basilisk fang and they destroy the Hufflepuff Cup and then finally kiss. Harry goes to the Room of Requirement to find the diadem and Malfoy, Goyle and Blaise come in and start chasing him. Goyle casts a cursed fire and ends up dying but Harry, Ron and Hermione save the others before destroying the Horcrux. Harry looks into Voldemort’s mind to find where he is and is led to the boathouse where he discovers that Nagini, his snake, is the final Horcrux and watched Voldemort kill Snape to become “the true master of the Elder Wand”. As Snape is dying he gives Harry his memories. As they make their way up back to the school you discover that Tonks, Lupin and Fred Weasley have been killed in battle (cue sobbing). Harry looks at Snape’s memories in the Pensieve and discovers that he had been friends with his mother, Lily, and had been in love with her and it had been his doe Patronus that led Harry to the sword. He also learnt that Dumbledore insisted that Snape be the one to kill him and reveals that Harry is also a Horcrux, one that Voldemort never meant to make. Harry makes the journey to the Forbidden Forest to die at the hand of Voldemort and using the Ressurection Stone (found in the Golden Snitch left to him by Dumbledore) has the guidance of his parents, Sirius and Lupin. When Voldemort casts the Killing Curse, Harry is transported to limbo where Dumbledore’s spirit meets him and explains that Voldemort killed the part of him that lived in Harry and Harry goes back to finish the fight. Voldemort announces that Harry is dead but then Harry makes a move and starts to battle with Voldemort. Neville ends up killing Nagini with the sword of Gryffindor. The Malfoys flee, Mrs Weasley kills Bellatrix Lestrange and Voldemort’s Killing Curse rebounds off Harry and he dies by his own hand. Harry explains to Hermione and Ron that he was the true master of the Elder Wand because Draco Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore and then Harry disarmed Malfoy. The three of them walk back into Hogwarts. Nineteen years later sees Ron and Hermione and Harry and Ginny married and sending their children off to Hogwarts.
What the movie doesn’t tell you
A lot happens in this movie with little left out from the book series. The main things left out was an underlying plot story about the Dumbledore’s which is too complex to get into here and the final battle with Voldemort went a lot differently. For one thing, it happened in the Great Hall in front of the entire school, remaining Death Eaters and members of the Order. Harry launches into this fantastic speech identifying Snape as a hero and explaining that he himself is the master of the Elder Wand. There is also a lot of rejoicing after Voldemort is killed, but in the film, it seems like people don’t even care.
