Think of everything you know to be true about chick flicks.
Now throw that knowledge away; you won’t need it for Bridesmaids.
I was so excited to see this movie and I was not at all disappointed!
This Judd Apatow (creator of Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin) classic is so hilariously funny that I’ve decided to create its own new genre: chick com!
It’s too good to be classed as a rom-com or an average comedy.
Bridesmaids shows that, you know what, girls are funny too!
Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig stars as Annie, the best friend of Lillian (Maya Rudolph) who gets in engaged and asks her to be her maid of honour.
The fun starts at the lavish engagement party where Annie meets the other bridesmaids, Megan (Melissa McCarthy), Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey), Becca (Ellie Kemper) and the gorgeous Helen (Australia’s Rose Byrne).
From there on in, there is a rivalry between Annie and Helen to see who is the ‘best’ friend.
In between the engagement party and the wedding there is a failed bachelorette party, puppies as party favours and food poisoning when at a wedding boutique which leads to girls shitting in the street (poo = always funny).
The men of the cast Officer Nathan Rhodes (Chris O’Dowd) and Ted (Jon Hamm) provide some great one-liners and I especially love Officer Rhodes accent and his carrots.
Instead of being a romance with a side of comedy, Bridesmaids is a comedy with a side of romance.
What sets this movie apart is that the focus is on the friendship over the relationship and while things don’t happen on this level of crazy when planning a wedding, everyone knows someone or has dated someone who has gone crazy when a bridesmaid.
It’s not just something for girls; I saw it with a male friend of mine who found it just as funny as I did.
“I shit my pants” is what you’ll be saying after you’ve seen this classic…from laughing of course.
I laughed so hard the whole way through that I actually missed some of the lines.
I would definitely call this a must see!
Monique gives it 4.5 stars!
