archive: the hangover II review

“It happened again”

“What is it with you three?”

Last night I went to see The Hangover II. Even though it has been out for a few weeks, the cinema was still pretty packed.

Sequels can be hard, especially coming after something as amazing as The Hangover.

Surprisingly I enjoyed myself. It was really funny.

It followed the same basic formula as the first film, but I wasn’t sitting there thinking “haven’t I already seen this?”

The return of the wolf pack takes place at Stu’s (Ed Helms) wedding in Thailand.

After the events of Vegas, Stu only wanted a “bachelor brunch”, but Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Doug (Justin Bartha) wouldn’t let him.

Then Doug’s wife tells him that her brother Alan (Zach Galifianakis) is upset that he hasn’t been invited to Stu’s wedding as he considers them his best friends after the events of Doug’s bachelor party.

Then Stu is guilted into inviting Alan and they make their way to Thailand.

After the rehearsal dinner two nights before the wedding, the boys, along with Stu’s bride’s younger brother Teddy (Mason Lee), have a bonfire and some beers on the beach.

The next thing you know, they’ve woken up the next morning in Bangkok and the craziness starts there.

We also run into Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong) for Alan befriended him after their ordeal in Vegas.

My only issue is that Doug was absent from this crazy night as he went to bed early.

There was no need for this and it would have been interesting to see how Doug handled this, as Stu, Phil and Alan have all dealt with a similar situation before.

All in all, it was still hilarious, with my favourite part, just like in the first film, being the photos shown in the credits – comedic genius.
